We loved the handbag from the Carrie Dairies and after looking on line at the various attempts to recreate the bag has left us a little dissatisfied. I know that “Carrie” herself has made some mistakes making the bag (adding water to nail polish?) but today’s enamel based nail polish makes for brighter colors and long lasting wear. First, we tried to find the right bag. Other versions used a bag from “Forever 21” but we found a bag from Loehmann’s , Jessica Simpson, $89 but on sale for $34.00. We used this bag because of the top handle feature and the turnkey lock that was so identical to the Carrie bag.
Because we are using nail polish, we want to to cover the hardware so we can keep the brass elements. We used a plastic bag to cover the hardware. Remember to cover your workspace so the nail polish does not get everywhere.
I used these nail polishes because they are enamel, quick dry and bright in color. You can try any colors as long they are bright. We used pink, blue, white and silver.
Here is the picture of the bag midway. The trick is the use flicks of the wrist to get long lines instead of letting the nail polish drop. Add as much nail polish to the wand and flick. We removed the smear feature so the bag looks more uniform. Here you can see we created the first steps of the bag.
Continue to add the splats, drips and drops until you cover most of the bag. Don’t forget to include the flap into the design.
Finally write your name on the bag. Some people use a logo to represent themselves like a heart, star or peace sign but we decided to go with the original look and write our first name. Try a script form of writing like “Carrie”.
Here is the final look of the bag!
We also created one from Target for $7.48.
