We all know that collaborations are now big business in the fashion industry. Collaborations allow brands to refresh their look, market to fans of the collaboratee and of course, in turn reach a whole new audience. Still, I was suprised to open up People’s style watch this month and see a whole new market for collaborations: makeup. This new collaboration market wasn’t has shocking as the designer condom emails that I got last year (Cynthia Rowley for Proper Attire?) but still we has to wonder, how it would all work out.
Pierre hardy for Nars
A shoe designer and a makeup company? The possibilities are minimal but that didn’t stop Nars for collaborating with Pierre hardy on a makeup and nail polish line. So I guess what we are looking at is the color story of the designer in makeup and nail polish as seen in the above image. The nail polish packaging is more key to the merger which comes in a dust bag and a mini shoe box. The site has little images of the new collection but we did see some nail polish colors including champagne brown, a kumquat pink, a sunset orange (above) and a deep blue (above). The makeup is set to release this summer but you can get the jump on when the collection hits stores by signing up for the email list here.
Rihanna and MAC
Even though brown lipstick hasn’t been in since the 90’s somehow MAC and Rihanna thought it needed a revival. The design is slightly boring while the color palette is limited. The true love seems to be in the brushes which is probably the only thing i would buy. Of course, i don’t expect legions of Rihanna fans to pass this opportunity to get their hands on RiRi’s signature look and I bet MAC is counting on that as well. According to BET.com, Rihanna had this to say about working with MAC:
“Working with MAC, it’s difficult to get a red lipstick that beats Ruby Woo, because it works on every skin tone. I had so many different samples to choose from and so many different colors underneath — blue, yellow, orange and pink bases. And I got to pick one that worked, and I tried it on all my friends to make sure it worked on all of our skin tones. I really got to play. There’s so much to choose from, and you can mix different textures with different colors and different greens in different eye shadows. I learned so much about the detail of makeup and what makes things look different. What makes it apply different is really important. Every little detail is important.”
The collection is set to launch May 3rd.
